Coquelicot

Another find from Takoma Park's Polly Sue's Vintage Shop, circa June 2001...

Coquelicot was a big favorite of mine for a very long time. The print is quite low-key, at least by my standards, with an emphasis on gray silhouettes and shadows, and only a few actual poppies in full bloom.

But then again, isn't the poppy about a million times more valuable before it blossoms?

It's the cut of Coquelicot that makes it special, and if I had the sewing skills, I would reproduce it in a hundred different fabrics.

Relaxed but a bit sophisticated, flattering and flirty without going overboard... a few variations on hemline and sleeve length, and I could wear this cut every day of the week.

I know, I know. Dressopotamia would suffer, and we can't have that.

But doesn't the twisty neckline make you wonder if maybe, just maybe, we could pull this off?

This is the spot where I would point out some fabric-covered buttons — how I love fabric-covered buttons! — but they both fell off a long time ago.

You did read the bit saying I've had Coquelicot since June 2001, right? Things happen.

  1. So pretty! I love that print- it must have been really expensive to produce because it's a border print and it has a ton of shades of colors in it. And the neckline is great because it has the chest enhancement of a wrap dress but it probably doesn't move around or cut in odd places.

    1. Thanks Ayesha! I'm not sure if it actually is a border print, because the bright bits seem to pop up in random places. I think it might just be really large...
