Painted Tortoise

Hurricanes, am I right?

What a snarling, stinking, sloppy mess Sandy was. We were hardly even affected—the power was out for two and a half days, and once my office reopened, getting into work was an expensive challenge—but count me as officially over it.

Forest Garden

As the weather gets chilly, I not with sadness the shortening daylight hours and the dwindling number of days I can wear dresses before losing my knees to frostbite. The flimsy, the mini and the sleeveless all begin to work their way to the back of the closet, after having finally gotten their due on Dressopotamia.

(Dressopotamia, by the way, is asynchronous; the pictures might be a day old, or a few months. I don't want to mislead you when I feature sundresses in late September, which I will.)

Peony Cache-Cache

My memory of this one isn't super-precise, either... I think I bought it in Buenos Aires?

My grandmother, who has been immortalized in these pages before, never talked about her clothes. I find this rule impossible to follow in my own life — obviously — but I do enjoy the aura of mystery in conveys, or rather would convey if I didn't treat every dress like an encapsulation of my own life story, complete with insecurities and indiscretions.

Lilac Baby

I can't remember exactly when and how Lilac Baby came into my life.

It was probably in Argentina? (In case you haven't picked up on this yet, my time in Buenos Aires included a lot of vintage buying sprees.) There's a lot to like about it, and a lot that is frankly a little meh.

Bananas

Bananas are the perfect snack fruit; they lack the disadvantages of other fruits, like pre-fruital fruit washing (apples, berries), post-fruital hand washing (oranges) or the need for knives (mangos, kiwis) or non-disposable plastic clamshells (the sadly lackluster fruit salad available at your better bodegas). The only problem with bananas is eating them in public.

Red Fish Blue Fish

I have a confession to make: not all of my dresses are vintage. Once in a great while, I'll come across something so adorable, so timeless, that I know it would fit right in my closet. Sometimes I get close enough and I already feel like I own it; paying for it and taking it home is a mere formality. Red Fish Blue Fish... was not one of these.
