Sunny Flowers

I saw this post on Facebook a few days ago, and it made me a little sad.

"No one will ever understand your crazy family like your cousins do, even if you haven't talked to them much lately. Share this if you have the best cousins in the world..."

Don't get me wrong, I love my cousins (heart you, Elle!)!  Cousins are great! But whoever wrote this clearly doesn't have siblings. I just wrote and erased about half a dozen sentences on how much my sisters mean to me—but they know.

Sunny Flowers always makes me think of my sister in Vermont.

One day several years ago, a little package arrived in the mail with no fanfare. Inside was Sunny Flowers, accompanied by—and this is important—a necklace.

Closer look:

If I had never seen the necklace, Sunny Flowers could definitely stand on its own. The print reminds me of something you might see in a 1970s children's book about accepting yourself as you are. (Or the video below, sort of.)

The cut is loose, but it comes with a matching belt. Whatever happened to matching belts? You never see them anymore. They probably cost a few extra cents to make.

Además, note the little white accent that separates the body of Sunny Flowers from the ruffle at the bottom.

All that greenery is good for camouflage, too.

It helps if you are pale enough to fade into the wall behind you.

I just realized that the story makes no sense if I don't tell you that my sister sent me the package. For no reason! Just 'cause! (Note to readers: I strongly encourage this sort of behavior.) That's why Sunny Flowers makes me think of her, and maybe why it feels so incomplete without the necklace.
